Free Agent Brandon Barker Signs

Reading have completed the signing of Brandon Barker until the end of the season. Barker was without a club after leaving Rangers by mutual consent last month. He is a forward left player and comes to Reading after playing just 67 minutes of first team football all season. His only appearance this season came in a Scottish FA Cup fixture against Stirling - a 4-0 home win.

Rangers signed the player in 2019 for 300,000 pounds from Manchester City where he made a single appearance from the bench in an FA Cup game. He fell out of favour last season and spent the season on loan at League One Oxford. At Oxford he played 22 times and scored three goals as his side finished in the play-off positions.

Anyone heard of Brandon?! Ex Man City and Rangers - 25 year old left winger. Scored Oxford’s goal of the season last year…….

We desperately need a Winston Reid type character. Not this guy. Presumably Ejaria is out for a good while yet.

What an odd signing. I thought we’d get an experienced CB.

Lowdown on Barker: - Very Quick but limited end product - Often tries too much but can leave a defender for dead. - Ok crossing ability. - Didnt play much for us, more a benchwarmer - Not a flashy player but very direct. - Was on loan at Oxford and done very well https://mobile.twitter.com/KevTS1988/status/1493601112666124291

Maybe it is a very cheap option that could be used as an impact player off the bench with one eye towards L1 if we do go down (based on his performances for Oxford). Which would actually be pretty decent planning by the club.
